Blahhhg Entry

We ventured downtown today to take part in the New Year's festivities, and I think Nana and Papa managed to return with a little money in their pockets after buying us dinner, a sparkly snowflake wand for Ellie, and a bunny-shaped balloon, also for Ellie. Dinner was at a fun, albeit confused cafeteria serving Ukrainian food in Chinese/Egyptian themed booths. Leah and I competed to try new things -- cabbage rolls, "salad of the sea" (cold shredded seaweed), rolls stuffed with ground chicken and apricots, various meats and soups -- we left quite full. Oh, and we had Vanilla Coke too (nanananabooboo).

Leah, however took the "explorer of the day" award for a pretty adventurous soup. When we asked what was in it, the server made a fairly uncertain answer, which interested Leah enough to try it. Turns out it was made mostly of fish stock, some unidentifiable grey squiggles, and carrots which Leah insists had bones. It was the one thing she couldn't get me to try. Having already consumed the rest of my food, I was afraid of the influence the strange soup might have on the already quite variant inhabitants of my stomach.

We're home now resting, with plans on eating some less experimental chocolate.

I think the bunny balloon was really for Matt...

And Andrew - why not buy yourself a bottle of vanilla syrup, hit a drive-thru to pick up what my roommate Ellen used to call "pop with a straw" (meaning a fountain coke instead of coke in a can or bottle), and have a real vanilla coke the way they were meant to be?

Here's the rundown from each of our kids...

Brynne:
I got almost everything that I wanted but the things that I didn't get that I wanted i'm going to Buy with My money like littlest petshop so i'm glad your having a good time in Ukraine. carrots with bones in them Leah? thats kind of freaking me out but thats just my opion. I just got my camp pictures developed and annie and my mom are looking at them right now since I am writing to you now. Eric anyhow is in the living or family room because he got bored looking at pictures. Annie is having a bal looking at pictures. (they arent all camp pictures thats why they are taking so long) Do you remember Lily? well if you do her birthday is on newyears eve isn't that cool but I still like having a spring/summer birthday because after christmas you have something to look forward to thats not to close I hope you know what i'm talking about because I can't Explain it any better then that. We got some family games like Othelo, Apples to apples, and a spongbob game that I realy don't know what is. Well I have to go because Annie and Eric want a turn. bye!

Annie:
We played LifeStories with Grandma and Grandpa. I really like that game! (Sidenote from Aimee - this really is a great game for getting at people's stories. I'll bring it in and show it to you when you get back).

Eric:
The dinner was SO YUMMY! and uh, at Christmas I liked to throw snowballs. (Aimee wonders where these snowballs came from since it was 60 degrees out and raining - this kid has an amazing ability to adapt to less than ideal circumstances).

Aimee:
Christmas is a blur now as I try to pack up all the Christmas decorations. Usually I get things down the day after Christmas, but this year I got to take my sister, Erin, back to Granger and even got a night there with her and no one else. So now I'm trying to organize after several years and three moves of just trying to throw everything back in.

Hey Leah - I picked up Beth Moore's book "Believing God" right before Christmas and we turned her "tie a blue cord on" into a cool little family ritual on New Year's Eve---a new twist on New Year's resolutions. Any of you brave enough to make any resolutions?

Look forward to seeing you in a couple of weeks!

Love ya a bunch,
Aimee

Hey there Tuszynskis! Great to hear from all of you! Brynne, I know exactly what you're talking about with birthdays. I have a July birthday, which I really like because it spreads out the big celebrations. Leah's birthday is December 19, which makes it hard on me because I have to think of good present ideas for TWO holidays back-to-back.

I won't lie -- I do like the bunny balloon. We also could have gotten a picture taken with Santa and his creepy little monkey, but I put the kaibash on that.

Aimee--

Believe it or not, back in the days when Matt and I were living in the Peppermint Palace before Coke introduced Vanilla Coke, I used to do exactly what you suggested. After VC came out though, I really liked the flavoring Coke came up with and I haven't been able to go back yet.

Oh--I subbed over at Summit one day and Brynne's friend Lily was in my class. :)
